A Note from the Artist
Art for Land’s Sake is an exhibition and sale to benefit the Valley’s Planning Council and land preservation in North Baltimore County. The Exhibit and Sale, a ticketed event, will be held October 23, 2009 from 6:00 to 9:00, at Sagamore Farm. The show will remain open through October 25. For more information and tickets, contact the VPC at 410 337-6877 or alicevpc@comcast.net.
The selection of paintings shown here represents the work I have selected for this event. Not all the work shown here will be exhibited at the show due to space limitations and the committee’s selection process, but all sales from the show on this web-site will have a portion of the proceeds benefit the VPC. Any commissions for portraits or other work received as a result of this show will also benefit the VPC. This offer will remain in effect until April 23, 2010.
This group of paintings contains two main themes. The first is part of a series I am doing on the 2009 steeplechase season. Most are from the Grand National races for the simple reason that is was one of the only sunny days of the spring! The vivid light brought out the forms of the horses and riders and made the silks glow.
The second theme is the restoration of Sagamore Farm. This will be an ongoing project for me. The long range plan to bring back the buildings and the breeding and training programs there is a story worthy of a sustained process of looking for the key images that tell it best. My first visit was in the snow and seemed to suggest the frozen beginning of a new era.
A few other paintings are from my exploration of the landscape and Hunting scenes of the area. My recent show, “Portrait of a Tradition” depicted the Blessing of the Hounds at St. James Church. It was a first step in a longer project to record the places and subjects of this remarkable sport.
I hope you enjoy the work. Please feel free to contact me at my studio. Sam Robinson |
