"Portrait of a View"
A show of landscape paintings by Sam Robinson
to celebrate the Tenth Anniversary of Shawan Downs and the Land Preservation Trust

This show began with an invitation from Charlie Fenwick to paint several hilltop views of properties that have been put into the Land Preservation Trust, the vehicle by which the Shawan Downs Equestrian Center and Steeplechase facility were created, to display at the Tenth Anniversary event. I agreed enthusiastically, knowing this would give me the chance to paint some of the areas most beautiful spots and further improve my understanding of the geographical setting for the Hunting and Steeplechasing subject matter I have become so interested in.

I hope that this show will communicate the special beauty and character of our unique area. Our local landscape has a particular elegance, with its rolling fields and the gracious shapes of the great hardwoods that crown the hills. There were many more sites that I wanted to paint, but they will have to wait for another time and occaision. I look forward to hearing from the folks who live and work around these places, and hope I have done justice to the beauty I found there.
