As a portrait artist, I find my subjects more interesting when they are doing something than when they are posing. The impulse to paint Friends students began as any other proud parent might have, responding to the charm of our children performing by taking pictures. Realizing that I had some wonderful subject matter to work with I started with a portrait of John Rubin playing his cello. John's portrait won a certificate of merit at the Portrait Society of America's annual competition. Further portraits of musicians were shown at my first show of work at Friends School in 2006.

This show expands the subjects from musicians to include the students in roles in plays and musicals. I also have tried some sport subjects which emphasize action and outdoor light. The point of the show is to reflect the grace and charm of our children. It is also intended to benefit Friends School financially. Friends School acts as the gallery in this case, taking a 50% commission from any sales. The work is priced below my usual commission rates to make the work available to the widest audience possible. I hope you will enjoy my artistic interpretation of these remarkable young people.
